Review: Edmund Scientific Astroscan telescope (DansData)

Review: Edmund Scientific Astroscan telescope

Dan does a wonderful review of this scope. They key concepts are portability and wide-field viewing -- nebulae rather than planets. There's much to marvel at in the universe at very large scales; match your interests to the accessible!

I'm seriously tempted to buy one. I'm also happy to learn that Edmund is still around, it's been 25 years since I admired their catalogs.

I bought the Astroscan for my daughter's 7th birthday. She's 10 now, and tonight we were able to see rings on Jupiter from our home in suburban San Jose CA. Quite an accomplishment from a kid's scope!

I heartily recommend this scope. Buy the basic $199 kit, as the $399 version doesn't double the value. I've added one higher magnification eyepiece from Ebay for $20.

I'd forgotten about this long ago post, but now my daughter is six and keen on science.

My two boys have different interests, so I wasn't really expecting a science fan. Suddenly, she's here.

So thanks for reminding me about the Astroscan!
